Following an agreement on commercial pilot training signed by the Kazakhstan Civil Aviation Academy and Patria Pilot Training, a group of Kazakh students began their training in Helsinki today. This training is based on a memorandum of understanding signed during President Sauli Niinistö's state visit to Kazakhstan in April last year.

Patria is training 12 Kazakh students, chosen among around 60 applicants, up to the end of 2015. The training began with theory instruction in Kazakhstan, and will continue with flight training given in Finland. Upon completion of the training, the students will receive commercial pilot licences (CPL) with multi-engine and instrument ratings in compliance with the regulations of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The students will also receive full airline transport pilot theory training and Multi-crew cooperation training.

“The fact that we now begin training is concrete proof of the success of our efforts, and represents a significant step toward closer cooperation in aviation training between Finland and Kazakhstan. We believe that the current negotiations will lead to an expanded cooperation which will benefit both parties. We are glad that we can now start the practical side of pilot training,” says Patria Pilot Training CEO Mikko Paronen.

Patria and the Kazakhstan Civil Aviation Academy are negotiating the training of additional groups for the near future, and on separate flight instructor training to meet the Academy's needs. Patria is also an active partner in negotiations on establishing the Academy's own training centre based on EASA standards.

Patria Pilot Training has trained hundreds of commercial pilots since its foundation in 1998. In addition to Finnish students, Patria Pilot Training has trained Cadet Pilots from the Saint Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation.
