The defence industry group Patria and the shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) are offering collaboration opportunities to Finnish enterprises in the implementation of the Finnish Defence Forces' Squadron 2020 project. Such collaboration will enable the construction of vessels, the optimisation of weapons systems and the future maintenance and upgrading of vessels based on Finnish know-how and experience.

“The Squadron 2020 project forms an integral part of the upgrading of the Finnish Navy fleet. Patria aims to participate in the construction of these new-generation vessels in close cooperation with the Defence Forces. We have solid skills and experience in functioning as the main coordinator in large projects, in which we have been responsible for overall planning, subcontractor delivery coordination and general integration,” says Pasi Niinikoski, President, Systems at Patria.

”Our cooperation with Patria will provide us with the necessary resources and the full range of competencies required for the construction of the Squadron 2020 fleet in Finland. RMC's experience in the construction of combat vessels for the Navy and the location of our shipyard on the west coast of Finland are important factors in ensuring security of supply on a national basis,” emphasises Heikki Pöntynen, President and CEO of RMC.

The purpose of the Squadron 2020 project is to replace the Navy's surface combatants, which will become outdated in the 2020s. The Minister of Defence has given the Finnish Defence Forces a mandate to get this project off the ground.
