Light aircraft crashed on training flight
The training aircraft, register OH-PDY, on Patria Pilot Training Oy’s flight crashed in the water on 15 August approximately at 13.30 on Lake Saimaa. According to the information received there were two flight students onboard in addition to the flight instructor.
According to the information received from the police all three have lost their lives. The families are being informed.
A four-seated Piper PA-28R-200 Arrow training aircraft on a cruise flight training took off from Helsinki, Malmi Airport at 9.45 to Kuopio. From Kuopio the aircraft continued the flight at 11.57 towards Lappeenranta. The last contact to the aircraft was at 13.09 by the Lappeenranta air traffic control. According to the information received from the police soon thereafter a boater saw an aircraft crash in the water in a nose-down attitude.
The Piper PA28 Arrow aircraft was rented by Patria Pilot Training Oy for training purposes. Typically there are two flight students on a cruise flight training; the other one is flying while the other is monitoring the flight.
A committee has been appointed to investigate the accident.
